Ascend Cabrillo

Pacific Cycle is recalling two models of e-bike due to improper assembly that can result in a fire. There have been three reports of fires, and one injury involving second-degree burns.

The recall covers the Ascend Cabrillo and Minaret models, which affects about 1700 e-bikes. Owners of these e-bikes should stop using them immediately and leave them unplugged. Pacific Cycle will issue refunds to the affected owners. The affected e-bikes carry the model numbers R7583BPS and R7585BPS (Ascend Cabrillo) and R7586BPS (Ascend Minaret).

The e-bikes were sold at Bass Pro and Cabela’s stores between January and November 2023.

To determine if an e-bike is affected by the recall, consumers should look at the service label affixed to the seat tube, above the bottom bracket. Affected e-bikes will say “Pacific Cycle” and the model number will be printed there as well.

The Ascend Cabrillo was painted either sand or gray and featured a rear rack. The Ascend Minaret featured a step-thru frame and was painted black with red and gray accents. All affected e-bikes say “Ascend” on the down tube and either “Cabrillo” or “Minaret” on the chainstay.

Owners of these e-bikes are instructed to enter their e-bike’s serial number at the Pacific Cycle site to determine if their e-bike is affected by the recall. The serial number is stamped into the bottom bracket shell. It is easily viewed if the bicycle is turned upside-down.
